Group E sees a couple of heavyweights enter the mix, along with some other interesting teams. Here’s our breakdown of Group E!
We’ve got some Champions Bowl pedigree in the mix for Group E as the Valencia Firebats, who finished 4th in Cambrils last year, take their place at Big Bowl this year. They’ve been given a tough job of advancing though, as perennial favourites, the Allerod Armadillos, will join them in group E. The Danish squad come into Big Bowl off the back of a Sportmanda Bowl win – can they add Big Bowl glory to their trophy cabinet?
The Grangemouth Broncos have been one of the top teams in the BAFA leagues this season, and sit atop the HNC with an undefeated record. They’re likely to be without a couple of key players, but they’ll be a tricky team for anyone to take on.
From the British shores, we also find the NuOla and Stormers teams. NuOla tend to treat this tournament as an excuse to come up with another wacky design concept for their annual jersey, but they often attract some decent talent who do damage also. The Stormers are frequent flyers, with plenty of experience at international tournaments. They’ve got some savvy and athleticism, but this is ultimately a very difficult group to negotiate.
The team with the least distance to travel are the Ilmroosters. They’ve got the closest thing to home-field advantage, but a 37th place finish last year has us doubting their potential to advance.
Allerod and Valencia are our favourites to top the group, but in which order? Allerod finished on the podium last season in third place – we’re taking them to win this group. Valencia will follow up as one of the stronger second-placed teams.
The Broncos at full strength would likely challenge, but we’re putting them in as one of the better third places teams around. The Stormers will finish behind them, followed by NuOla and finally the Ilmroosters.
