Flagging New Year III – An Update

We’ve got some important news regarding Flagging New Year III. Since the release of the Sapphire Series fixtures (Women’s kitted league), there has been a number of teams within the UK who have advised they would be unable to field a team at our Women’s edition of Flagging New Year (originally scheduled 3rd of February 2018). As a result of this, the organisers have taken the unfortunate decision to cancel the event. Alan Young said the following:

It is with great regret that we have decided to cancel the Flagging New Year Women’s edition. We knew it was always going to be a risk running it on a separate weekend to the mixed event, but unfortunately we were unable to negotiate additional opening hours to have the two run at the same time.

The schedule of the women’s contact season in the UK unfortunately has left too many teams unable to commit and financially we cannot take the risk of not getting enough teams to cover our expenses.

We hope to return with a women’s event alongside the mixed event in 2019. I would like to thank the teams that signed up and apologise specifically to them as we had hoped to run a women’s event to match the mixed event from last year.

Well that’s the bad news out the way. We have our first withdrawal, as the Bedford Blackhawks, who also withdrew from the Outlaw Flag League, have been forced out of the running for Flagging New Year also. They’ve been replaced by the next team in the waiting list. Which is…wait for it…

Yes, the 2017 Champions Bowl winners will be playing their first games on British soil in 2018. They join an already loaded field, as they look to add to their already incredible list of accolades.

We’ll have more to share on the event closer to the time! Keep checking Flag Football World for all your FNYIII news!
