SWC Top QBs – Midseason

The SWC features some of the top QBs in the U.K. Here’s how the signal-callers are faring at the midpoint of the season!

1. TRISTAN VARNEY, BIRMINGHAM LIONS – 176 POINTS

Tristan Varney catapults to the top of the SWC QB Rankings after a scintillating game day in Birmingham this past week in which saw him put up 19 TDs, 5 XPs, 2 XP2s. He was able to come out on top against the Northants Titans Blue in his toughest challenge to date but he still has a stern test on the horizon against the impressive Cardiff Hurricanes and Hereford Stampede. It really would take a miracle for Tristan to lose the SWC crown this year considering the blistering pace he seems to be setting.

2. JEREMY SMITH, NORTHANTS PHANTOMS – 141 POINTS

Jeremy Smith also moves up in the rankings at the mid-season point and has been impressive in a number of shootouts. Smith has benefited from these high scoring affairs to the tune of 35 TDs & 22 XPs. He doesn’t show any signs of slowing down with some favourable match-ups remaining to add to his already impressive tally. The only negative which may affect Smith’s points is the occasional dual QB system which the Phantoms run with Luke Hoskin, who has put up 6 TD’s to put himself in at #10 in the QB rankings.

3. ADAM GRINDROD, NORTHANTS TITANS BLUE – 125 POINTS

Adam falls 2 places to 3rd in the rankings as he didn’t play in the Birmingham game-day. Adam will be looking to bounce back from this missed opportunity to regain the lead at the top of the table when his Northants Titans visit Coventry for their next set of fixtures on the 4th of June. Adam has played some incredible football, only being picked off 3 times. He does have two tough tests remaining against division rival Phantoms and against the stingy Hurricanes defence on the final game-day of the season, however he’ll be looking to make a run for the bragging rights of SWC’s best QB with just 6 games remaining.

4. MATTHEW THOMAS, CARDIFF HURRICANES – 124 POINTS

In the same position as Adam Grindrod, Matt Thomas suffers the fall down the leaderboard due to Cardiff being on a huge mid-season break where they have had 5 weeks rest. Matt Thomas has great chemistry with his receivers which has seen him put up 31 TDs and 18 XPs in just 6 games this season. With a division game-day looming, Thomas will be looking to have the Hurricanes regain the division lead, as they currently sit one game behind Hereford Stampede. The only thing keeping him from appearing higher on our list is Matthew’s unfortunate number of negative plays (sacks and interceptions).

5. BARRY SELLERS, PLYMOUTH BUCCANEERS – 122 POINTS

The Plymouth gunslinger, Barry Sellers, has managed to maintain his position in the Top 5 of the rankings at the mid-season point. With 9 games under his belt, Sellers has racked up an impressive 35 TDs, most of which finding WR Jack Gilbert, who he has hit for over half of his TD output this season. Although they sit at 4-5, this hasn’t stopped the Buccaneers from being productive in those losses and Barry will remain a mainstay in the top 5 as long as he keeps producing in his remaining 6 games. He has talented QBs Steve Hall & Matt Tibbles breathing down his neck however…

Let’s take a look at our top 10 at the mid-season point!
