Top SWC Defensive Players – Midseason

The final update from the SWC stat machine is the defensive players who have been tearing it up since our last update. There are still some familiar faces from the conference’s best defences in the top 5 as we have highlighted below;

1. STEFAN ROWDEN, NORTHANTS TITANS BLUE – 38 POINTS

Sitting at the top spot once again is Stefan Rowden who leads a run of Northants Titans Blue defenders in the Top 3. Stefan added 3 more interceptions to his tally, including another pick six against the Plymouth Buccs in his last game day. The downside for Stefan Rowden is that he misses the next game day which gives his competition plenty of chances to move ahead of him.

2. CONNOR MELAY, NORTHANTS TITANS BLUE – 32 POINTS

Opposition QB’s beware when passing through the Titans Blue defence. Connor Melay has snagged 14 Interceptions on the season so far which averages out at at least one per game, which is a great achievement from the former offensive player. He’ll be looking to move closer to Stefan at the Titans next game day against opposition who he has already intercepted 7 times, with 3 pick sixes in Gameweek 1.

3. HARRY BRAILEY, NORTHANTS TITANS BLUE – 30 POINTS

Another Titans Blue member to round out the Top 3 is Harry Brailey, who moves up one spot from 4th in the hunt for SWC’s best defensive player. Brailey is a monster at pressuring the QB’s in the SWC, which has created multiple turnovers for his teammates. He has 19 sacks on the season, 2 safeties and also has a pick six to his name.

4. JOE COTTERILL, CARDIFF HURRICANES – 24 POINTS

Joe Cotterill drops down one place to 4th due to the fact that he has played less games than the 3 players above him. The Cardiff Hurricanes star has collected an interception in each of his 6 games this season whilst returning 3 of them for TDs. Cardiff boasts one of the nations best defences in 2017 and Joe is one of the prime reasons for that with excellent ball hawking skills and ability to turn his interceptions into great field position for his offence.

5. SAM FINNIE, COVENTRY COUGARS – 22 POINTS

A new entry into the Top 5 at the Mid-Season point is Sam Finnie, who went off during his game against the Leicester Eagles, where he snagged a hat-trick of pick sixes . Sam would add another interception in his other game to round off a productive game day.
